MEA LADY KNIGHTS WIN 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

This weekend marked the final games of the 2012 season. The Lady Knights went into the State Tournament as the #1 Seed from the region, and were matched up with #4 seed, Tuscaloosa Academy in game one on Friday afternoon. The Lady Knights defeated TA, and waited for Wilcox Academy in the 4PM game. After defeating Wilcox, MEA advanced to the Winner's Bracket game Saturday morning and were matched up against region rival, Glenwood. Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the 6th inning, The Lady Knights found a spark. Deven Kennedy began the inning with a single into left field. Abby Adams then bunted her over, and Cameron Redding drew a fielder's choice giving the Knights bases loaded, 0 outs with Senior, Haley Floyd, coming to the plate. On the 2nd pitch of the at-bat, Floyd blasted a homerun over the fence in center field to give the Knights a 4-1 lead. They would go on to win by that score. With this win, the Lady Knights were in the Championship series and awaited the winner of Glenwood/Kingwood. Once again, in poetic fashion, the Lady Knights would have to face region nemesis, Glenwood, for the Class AAA State Championship. After 2 scoreless innings, Lady Knights unleashed a scoring attack of 8 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, and added 3 more in the top of the 4th inning to give the Lady Knights the 11-0 victory. Freshman, Bailey Singleton, was named State Tournament MVP, and her All-Tournament Team members included, 8th Graders, Jesi Garrett & Paxton Searle, and Senior, Haley Floyd.
The Lady Knights ended their season 52-8. They recorded more wins in the season than any other Macon East Softball Team. Congratulations to the 2012 Macon East Softball Team & Coaching Staff on an incredible season!
