COMMUNITY SERVICE CLUBS

The Newly Formed High School Leo Club and the Junior High Y Club at Macon East Academy Lead a School Wide Effort to Provide Thanksgiving Meals

Durden Dean, a Lions Club member and contact person for the Lions Club school-sponsored Leo Clubs, has recently assisted Macon East Academy in forming a Leo Club in their High School.  Upper School Math teacher Keri Johnson agreed to sponsor the club with the assistance of Durden Dean and the Guidance Counselor, Debbie Hooks. The first service project of this club was to partner with the Junior High Y Club, led by Jennifer Harris, 7th and 8th grade English teacher, to collect foods needed for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Donna McCullough, Director of the Forest Park Ministry Center, had been given over 20 frozen Thanksgiving turkeys to distribute to families in need during the Thanksgiving season. The Leo Club and Y Club then decorated paper bags with art work and Bible verses and provided a food needs list consisting of stuffing, yams, green beans, peas, cranberries, corn muffins or bread mix, and a boxed dessert to complete the Thanksgiving meal. The food drive was conducted for a week and then students sorted the food and filled the bags with groceries. Donna McCullough picked up the beautiful bags of food and placed the turkeys with them and these complete Thanksgiving meals were distributed to families that needed them through the Forest Park Ministry Center. Students were blessed by giving and families were blessed to receive.
