It’s time for the 12th Macon East Deer Hunt. There will be a organizational meeting next Thursday, December 7, at 6:30 pm in the Upper School Library. Please come out to learn how you can help us in the single largest fundraising event we do each year for the athletic program. Proceeds from the hunt support more than just athletics however, as these funds are used throughout the athletic department and school to provide equipment and improve the facilities for all of our students.
Your support of Macon East is vital to the success of our athletic program. Deer Hunt sponsorships are available for a tax-deductible donation of $100. Along with your sponsorship you will receive naming rights on our very popular Deer Hunt t-shirts with your name or your business’s name on the back. Additionally, your name or your business’s name will also be on a banner posted at the deer hunt main site. Sponsors receive one (1) free t-shirt and have the opportunity to purchase additional shirts at cost.
If you would like to be a sponsor, please contact Glynn Lott, Athletic Director/Dean of Students or Jill Taylor, Admissions Director at 334-277-6566. We appreciate your support of Macon East and our Deer Hunt. We look forward to seeing everyone at the hunt on January 20, 21, & 22, 2012.

DEER HUNT FAQ’s
Can I guide my own property? Of course, we want as many people involved who are a part of our MEMA family as possible. Often we will have members of hunting clubs take hunters as well.
How many hunters will I take? That is up to you. You can take one or you can take a whole group. We will work around your schedule and desired number of hunters.
I don’t hunt. What can I do? That is a great question and one that would take pages to answer! We have volunteers that do everything from preparing meals to providing transportations to working on a clean-up crew. There are plenty of opportunities to help and this is a great way to get plugged in to the school. You may also wish to be a sponsor on our t-shirt and help financially, if you don’t have the time to physically be present. We turn no help away!
Will I be able to hunt with them? Sure you can! Most of these hunters expect for you to hunt with them and they enjoy your successes and stories as much as their own. We do always want to remember that they are our guest and we want to work toward their success before our own and focus first on being a great host.
I have some property, but I don’t know if it is enough to hunt? We utilize tracts of land from 70 acres to over 1,000 acres. We can often accommodate bow hunters or individuals on small tracts of land.
I’m not a member of the MEMA Booster Club, can I still help? Sure! We would love to have you be a part of our booster club, but everyone is welcome to participate. We have many participants and landowners who are not affiliated with our school in any way.
Do I have to participate during the entire hunt? No. We have a few participants who choose to take hunters only once or twice. Often, we will move hunters from one piece of land to another for various reasons and it can be helpful to us to have a piece of land that we can use even if it is for one hunt.
What if I don’t have tree stands on my property? We have several that we would be glad to provide to you for the hunt, and we will do everything we can help you put them up if needed.
I’m concerned about liability. What kind of protection does the school offer landowners? Through our insurance provider, we cover each piece of property we hunt and even some we think we might hunt. I suggest contacting Coach Lott for more detailed information, but insurance coverage is one of our first priorities in managing our hunt.
Where are the hunters from? They come from many different areas. We have two groups who come from New York and one of those groups has been coming for years. Last year, we had a group from Vermont and we have even had a group come from Mexico.
How does this help my child? These funds ultimately benefit every child in this school. Few people realize that none of their tuition dollars go toward athletics. We are able to do this because our Booster Club raises the funds that support our athletic programs and facilities. This allows us to keep our tuition affordable and focused on other programs. The Booster Club also uses these funds to improve the overall quality of the school by improving facilities, purchasing equipment used by all students and offering events for all to enjoy!
